The Ozark Mountain Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will conduct a ceremony to honor an American Revolutionary War soldier. The event will take place at 10:00 AM, October 22, 2016 at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, just southwest of Willard, MO. We are calling the event “Missouri’s Last Revolutionary Patriot, A Celebration of Service”. The event is being held in conjunction with the Our Town Fall Festival & Country Show. There will be a brief presentation by the Willard High School History Club on James Barham at 11:15.
James Barham was born on May 18, 1764 in Virginia. In 1781 he joined the Virginia militia and served until the end of the American Revolution. He married first, Prudence Freeman Dunn and moved to Kentucky. Prudence died and James married secondly, Mary Huston. He eventually moved to Greene County, Missouri to be close to some of his children. He died on January 8, 1865 and was buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. James Barham was the last soldier of the American Revolution to die in Missouri and he was the fifth from last to die in the United States.
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is the largest male lineage organization in the United States, consisting of 50 societies with more than 500 local chapters, several international societies and over 34,000 members. SAR is dedicated to assisting our members, schools, teachers, and the general public in their efforts to sustain and preserve our history and constitutional principles.
